MISSION AWARENESS AND OUTREACH
Our children in the Los Angeles elementary schools and religious education programs reach out to children both at home and globally in hundreds of ways. They do this through prayer, mission education activities, and fund-raising activities.
Examples of some fund-raising activities from the 2000-2001 academic year are:

- Sixth-graders at St. Catherine Laboure School in Torrance sponsored a school-wide bake sale
- Students at St. Emydius School in Lynwood sponsored a Dance-a-thon and Banner contest.
- Students Grades K-8 at St. Euphrasia School in Granada Hills participated in the Advent HOPE HOUSE project for Angola street children by constructing "The House that Love Built" on the wall of the parish hall.
- Students at St. Paul of the Cross School in La Mirada participated in a fun-filled morning of "Mission Olympics."
- Children at Our Lady Help of Christians School in Los Angeles celebrated Mission Sunday in costume and dance of their global brothers and sisters in over 20 countries.
- St. Genevieve School in Panorama City participate in an annual "Jog-a-thon" for the HCA October program: Going the Extra Mile for Kids in Need. In 2000 they jogged for their brothers and sisters in Venezuela.
- Every year in March, Incarnation School in Glendale celebrates St. Joseph's Day by sponsoring a St. Joseph's Table. They celebrate an Italian tradition of a table for the poor on March 19 by offering delicious goods for sale, with the proceeds feeding the poor children of the world.

In addition to fund-raising activities such as these, children put coins in mission banks on a daily basis to indicate their awareness of the needs of their less fortunate sisters and brothers throughout the world.
